The Physician-Scientist: Bridging the Gap Between Bedside and Bench
Why the future of medicine depends on doctors who can think like engineers and researchers.
Bridging high-acuity cardiac anaesthesia and critical-care expertise with hands-on product leadership in digital health β building intelligent systems that enhance patient safety and empower clinicians.
"My mission is to empower, not replace, the anaesthesiologist. By building reliable, intelligent systems to handle the second-by-second balancing act of drug infusion, we can free up the clinician to focus on the bigger picture: anticipating complications, improving team communication, and being fully present for the critical, unscripted moments that define patient safety."
My work is driven by a simple belief: the best patient care happens when brilliant clinicians are empowered by intelligent tools. My journey through India's premier medical institutions (AIIMS, PGIMER, JIPMER) gave me a deep understanding of complex cardiac cases, but it was my passion for technology that defined my purpose.
I thrive at the intersection of medicine and engineering, acting as the crucial translator between clinical needs and technical solutions. This unique position allowed me to play a pivotal role in the development of the technology highlighted below.
Today that translation happens on both sides of the stethoscope: I practice bedside critical care and cardiac anaesthesia at Aveksha & Cytecare Hospitals, Bangalore, while serving as Clinical Product Manager at Cloudphysician β bridging engineering and clinical teams to build tele-ICU decision-support tools β and as Cardiac Anaesthesia Faculty for Marrow, training the next generation of super-specialists.
Manual titration of intravenous anaesthetic drugs during high-stakes surgery is a cognitively demanding task that requires constant vigilance, diverting the anaesthesiologist's attention from other critical patient and surgical factors.
As a key clinical collaborator and subject matter expert, I served as the primary liaison between the anaesthesiology department and the software engineering team. I helped design the data-logging tool, validated the Fentanyl model, and refined the user interface to ensure it was intuitive and effective in a real-world clinical setting.
The successful development and validation of an automated system that intelligently adjusts drug delivery based on real-time patient data. This innovation reduces cognitive load on the clinician, improves precision, and ultimately enhances patient safety. Findings from this work are published in the Indian Journal of Anaesthesia (2025).
CLADS was a defining project during my time at PGIMER. I'm not actively developing it further right now, but I'd genuinely love to hear from anyone building on it, researching similar closed-loop anaesthesia systems, or exploring related tele-ICU automation β always happy to compare notes.
Let's Talk CLADSDesigning and implementing multi-input, multi-output (MIMO) closed-loop systems for TIVA.
Using AI/ML to predict and prevent haemodynamic instability during high-risk surgery.
Developing AR/VR simulation models for anaesthesia education and crisis management.
Applying AI-assisted 3D-TEE for automated anatomical and functional analysis.
